Bring Your Room to Life
With the Best in Nature Photography

Capturing the broad vistas of the West, James Cowlin's stunning photographs are filled with light and depth and detail. Because of the strong horizontal shape, the panoramic print is ideally suited for office or home decor. Hang a panorama in any room and open a window to the world without cutting a hole in the wall.

Here’s how nature photography happens for me: I go to a place I want to photograph. I set up my cameras. Then I sit down and wait. I try to empty my mind of preconceived notions. I wait some more. I look. Eventually the place reveals itself. I see the forms and textures, the lights and darks. I move behind the camera and compose the photograph in the viewfinder. I expose the film. Then the technician in me takes over from the artist. I refine the image and look for variations. Focus on a detail, shoot the wide angle, rearrange the composition. It is exhilarating and exhausting.

What is presented here is a collection of my best work. You will find portfolios of panoramic photography, landscape photography and Arizona nature photography. Browse around and if you see something you like, check out the information on purchasing prints.

Because I believe strongly that we need to preserve what is left of our wild environment, I have included a section of references to sites where you can learn more about the places I photograph and the conservation organizations that are fighting to protect them.

"We abuse the land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect."
- Aldo Leopold
